FinOps: stop burning cloud money without noticing

Por Kubmix Admin · 18/06/2026

The cloud is elastic, and so is the bill. Without discipline, cost grows silently: forgotten instances left on, orphan volumes, test environments running over the weekend. FinOps is the practice of bringing finance close to engineering.

The FinOps loop

  1. Visibility: you can't optimize what you can't see. Know where every cent goes — by service, team and project.
  2. Allocation: tags and showback make each team see its own cost. Ownerless cost is never optimized.
  3. Optimization: instance rightsizing, scale-to-zero for idle workloads, and commitments (savings plans) only where usage is predictable.

The usual culprits

  • Resources over-provisioned out of caution.
  • Snapshots and volumes nobody deletes.
  • Underestimated data egress.
  • Dev environments running 24/7.

Optimization isn't cutting everything

FinOps isn't about spending less at any cost — it's about spending deliberately. Sometimes paying more for performance that drives revenue is right. The discipline is deciding with data, not in the dark.

The first step is to see

On Kubmix Cloud the billing already shows cost per resource and a month projection — the starting point of any FinOps strategy is visibility.
